This is the big weekend, and yes, I’m excited about the Superbowl. I’m looking forward to watching our LOCAL team win…but I do wish that New Jersey could, for once, not be overshadowed by New York. After all, the New York Giants play at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands IN NEW JERSEY, not New York. When we were first married, my husband and I lived in an apartment not much more than walking distance from the Stadium and passed it every day on the way to work.
We’ll be watching the Giants beat the Patriots, we hope, and a part of us will wish that for once, we could hear the name of our State, New Jersey, mentioned as the winning team.
The fall colors are really beginning to show all around us here in Northern New Jersey. I have a feeling they will be at their peak next week, when I hope to bring my Mom for a visit and take her around to view the beauty around us.
I had fun putting together a page about fall foliage in New Jersey, and it has many links to places you can go to hike, drive or walk all over the State, as well as a few videos to enjoy.
Please click “Colorful Fall Foliage in New Jersey“, I hope you will find it to be a helpful resource if you are planning to travel in the New Jersey area to view the colors.
Last year my husband and I started Geocaching, we aren’t out there every weekend like some enthusiasts, but enjoy our times when we do go out. It’s great exercise and not an expensive hobby. All you need is a hiking or biking GPS (not the kind that you use in your car) and a way to find “caches” in your area. You can find more information, and see what we do visit a page I put together called “Geocaching Baby Boomers” (I have new pictures that I have to add, but there are some there), and you can find out more about Geocaching at the MAIN site, geocaching.com.
Here are some pages devoted just to Geocaching in New Jersey:
Here’s a video put together by the North Jersey group…you don’t have to see snakes, get scratched up, and some of the other delightful things you’ll see here, because when you use geocaching.com to find and upload caches in areas you want to explore, you can set parameters ahead of time to avoid whatever you’d like to avoid. It REALLY IS a LOT of fun!
With the warm weather here, and the baseball season well under way, many in New Jersey are practicing their swing in backyards, baseball fields and batting cages throughout the State. I enjoy watching neighbors tossing baseballs to their children as they prepare them for their weekend games, it brings back great memories of sitting and watching my own now-grown children practice and play.
I was looking at a site that offers batting cages and saw that they can be purchased and set up wherever there is space for them, either indoors or outdoors. They have a great automated pitching feature that is coin-operated, so this can be a nice way to make some money.
There are batting cages available in New Jersey, I “googled” “New Jersey batting cages” and found some, but also was able to see areas that didn’t have them. This may be a nice side-business or more for someone during these challenging economic times. You can order online and have all that you need shipped to you, and it looks like, from my visit to masterpitch.com, you receive great instructions on how to set everything up. The creator of the system has been around for a long time and has great experience to back up the product offered.
Enjoy the baseball season this year! Who are you routing for?
Every year, if one of the NFL teams closest to us, the Jets or the Giants, don’t make it to the Super Bowl…or for my Colorado-raised husband the Denver Broncos, we have to decide who we are going to cheer on when we watch the big game. We like watching games, but aren’t HUGE sports fans, so the way we decide who we’re going to root for is based on what team is closest to us, so maybe it will be the Pittsburgh Steelers this year since PA is only a State away. Another thing that we might base our decision on if the teams aren’t our local favorites would be who is on the teams.
We still have time to make our final decision. Looking at sites that provide sports news videos can be fun while we make our decision…if you click the “sports news” link and look along the left, you’ll see a link to NFL, check it out, there are some great videos from playoffs and a lot of other videos for the sports fan. Check out the Superbowl Preview.
Have fun watching the game, only a few weeks to go!
Oh! Your not into football? There’s videos under the NHL, NBA, and MLB on comcast.net to keep you up on what’s happening with your team/sport, or keep you amused until the season for your sport comes around again.
